2013 AFL Victoria Herald Sun Senior Girls Shield

On Friday 19th July, the Thomas Carr College Senior Girls Football Team represented the ACS in the AFL Victoria Herald Sun Senior Girls Shield competition held at Ballarat Grammar. With Ballarat weather of rain and an average of 10 degrees, the girls pushed on to play in muddy conditions.

Having the privilege of being named captain along with Bianca D’Souza, we were so proud of the girl’s efforts and courage on the day, particularly Madeline Johnson and Maddison Eade for winning best on ground in the two games that were played. After a very long and cold day, having photos and meeting Trent Cotchin lifted our spirits.

Overall finishing fourth was an amazing achievement, creating history of being the first team ever to make the state tournament at Thomas Carr College after being the first team to win overall at the Girls football ACS competition. It has been an incredible experience to be a part of both history makings, hoping to finish on a high at the ACS competition later this term, being my last year.

I would also love to thank Michelle Sheehan representing the ACS for supporting us, also Tina Alphonso for her support, Jordan Reithofer for being our water boy and trainer, Tara Sherlock for helping train us for the big day and lastly Margie White for being a phenomenal coach, taking out her own lunchtimes, after schools and holidays to train us. We couldn’t have done it without them – Thomas Carr Girls Football Captain, 2013
