Izzy selected No. 1 in the 2017 AFLW draft

Congratulations to St Michael’s Grammar School’s Isabel Huntington for being drafted at number one by the Western Bulldogs

Throughout her school sporting history Izzy has always been a fierce competitor and played in the weekly ACS boys football competition in Years 7, 8 and 9. Izzy then competed in the ACS senior girls football competitions in Years 10 and 11 (2015 and 2016). Unfortunately a serious ACL knee injury kept Izzy out of the St Michael’s team this year but she was there guiding and supporting her team from the sidelines. At 18 Izzy has already seen the phenomenal growth of women’s football having played since she was five years old and was the only girl on the field until she reached the Under 14’s. To be a part of this remarkable development is not lost on Izzy as she has noted there were few girls playing football and limited resources in her junior years.

Izzy plays for the University of Melbourne Women’s Team and will no doubt be looking forward to stepping into a classy Western Bulldogs team and helping lift the Bulldogs higher up the ladder in 2018. As school co-captain at St Michael’s Grammar School, Izzy is a leader both on and off the field and the Western Bulldogs will certainly be looking to Izzy as a future leader at the club.

Izzy was inducted into the ACS Hall of Fame in 2014 for her selection in the All Australian under 18 Team in 2013 and 2014 at the National Australian Rules Championships. ACS will need plenty of room in her biography to add to her growing list of achievements. Congratulations Izzy and we wish you well with your future University aspirations and your football career with the Western Bulldogs.
