Herald Sun Shield AFL Launch Ignites at Marvel Stadium
The 2025 Herald Sun Shield AFL competition was launched in spectacular fashion at Marvel Stadium this week, celebrating the beginning of Victoria’s premier interschool football championship. The event brought together students, coaches, and AFL representatives in a vibrant showcase of talent and tradition.
Now in its 44th year, the Herald Sun Shield continues to unite top teams from Catholic, Independent, and Government schools, providing a competitive platform that has helped launch countless AFL careers.
The ACS was proudly represented by three Overnewton Anglican Community College students, accompanied by their Head of Sport, Darryl Craig. Their presence was made even more special by the event’s panel member – Campbell Gray, a current listed Richmond AFL player and a former Overnewton student himself. His involvement added a personal and inspiring touch, highlighting the strong pathways from school football to the elite level.
The launch featured engaging panel discussions, media coverage, and a look ahead at what promises to be a fiercely contested season across junior, intermediate, and senior divisions. With the event days set for iconic AFL/VFL venues, anticipation is building for another thrilling chapter in Herald Sun Shield history.
