2025 ACS Chess Championship Recap and Results

2025 ACS Chess Championship Recap and Results

The 2025 ACS Chess Championship was held on Monday 19 May at the beautifully presented campus of St Michael’s Grammar School, who graciously hosted this year’s event. A big thank you to the staff and students at St Michael’s for their hospitality and efforts in delivering a fantastic day of competition.

A total of 78 players from all 8 ACS schools took part in this academic championship, marking a continued growth in student interest and school engagement.

The tournament was expertly overseen by Tim and his incredible team from Northern Star Chess. We extend our thanks to them for running a smooth and professionally managed event.

ACS Chess Tournaments use Swiss System format. Unlike traditional round-robin tournaments, the Swiss System pairs players with others who have similar scores after each round, ensuring balanced and competitive matchups without teammates playing against each other. It also allows for efficient and fair ranking of players over a limited number of rounds.

In a display of exceptional talent, Westbourne Grammar School went back-to-back, taking out the team title with a dominant score of 33.5 points. Congratulations to their entire team on this outstanding achievement. Bacchus Marsh Grammar and Overnewton Anglican Community College followed closely behind in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

We would also like to thank the dedicated staff and coordinators from all schools for their hard work in preparing students and supporting the day’s operations. Your efforts continue to elevate the standard of ACS events.

Congratulations to all who participated and we look forward to seeing even more growth and competition in 2026!
