2022 ACS Swimming Championship Results

It’s a wrap for the ACS Swimming Championships for 2022! What a wonderful day to welcome all competitors, family and friends to the first major event of the year. We welcomed St Aloysius College’s Year 7 Girls to the championships for the first time where they enjoyed the experience.

Our swimmers of the meet – Mikaela and Alex – kicked off the championships with the 200m Individual Medley winning well and then taking out the final individual events of the day in the senior 100m Freestyle. Along the way Alex B from Loyola College broke two records; the Year 12 Boys 50m Backstroke and the Year 12 Boys 50m Butterfly both held since 2009. Congratulations Alex on your excellent swims.

The Year 8 Boys St Leonard’s team won the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay convincingly by 10 seconds and just pipped their own record held since 2012. Congratulations to our swimmers of the meet and record breakers.

Mikaela had stiff competition from Sophie (Westbourne), Giselle (St Leonard’s), Katelyn (Beaconhills) and Abbey (Overnewton), whilst Alex had Rohan (Loyola), Thomas and Liam (Beaconhills) nipping at his heels in the race to be crowned swimmers of the meet for the third time.

There were some super finishes; in the Year 11 Girls Freestyle Relay, St Michael’s pipped Westbourne by 0.02 seconds; Year 7 Girls Medley relay St Leonard’s scrapped home from Westbourne by 0.05; and the Year 11 Boys Medley relay St Leonard’s defeated Westbourne by only 0.17 seconds.

Congratulations to all the pennant winners; St Leonard’s, Westbourne, St Michael’s, Beaconhills and Loyola and to the winners of the Overall Aggregate, Girls and Boys Aggregate trophies; St Leonard’s College. This is the eighth year in a row St Leonard’s have won the major trophy equalling St Michael’s record of eights wins in a row.

Well done to all participants – it’s great to be back competing with family and friends in the stands.

On Tuesday 15 March, we welcome our member schools’ best swimmers back to MSAC for the 2022 ACS Swimming Championship.

We are pleased to announce that parents and friends may be in attendance but are required to be seated behind the teams in the grandstand, not with the teams; further information regarding MSAC’s COVIDSafe requirements can be found via this link. QR code must be scanned and proof of vaccination must be provided upon entry to MSAC.

ACS – What’s new in 2022

A big welcome back to all our member schools and community. 2022 brings about some new and exciting developments to the ACS.

Further to the introduction of flexible fixturing last year for our Seniors, we are expanding this model to the Intermediate level (Years 8/9) this year. Years 8’s will now play on a Thursday afternoon combined with the Year 9’s in the Intermediate level.

As a result, we have been able to add additional competitions for Boys Basketball, Cricket, Hockey and Softball, as well as Girls Softball, Tennis and Volleyball in the Summer Season.

For Winter, we are pleased to offer additional competitions for Girls Basketball, Football 10’s, Hockey and Table Tennis, as well as Boys Soccer, Tennis and Volleyball.

There will be an additional Mixed Touch competition for Summer and an additional Mixed Badminton competition added to the program.

This increase in opportunity will allow for students to play their first preference sport as much as possible and reiterates the importance of student participation within the ACS model.

It is with great excitement that St Aloysius College, North Melbourne, will join our Year 7 Girls Tennis and Volleyball competitions this term, as well as join us for our annual Carnivals. We welcome St Aloysius and wish the teams well.

After a challenging two years, we look forward to a full program of ACS sport in 2022.

ACS Cross Country Invitational 2021

Our five member schools came together at Westbourne Grammar School to partake in a Cross-Country Invitational on Monday 29 November. It was a wonderful way to end the ACS Sport year, with plenty of support for teammates, smiles and sunshine!

The official proceedings began with our host school’s Welcome to Country, before our students began the race in waves; Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Year 8 Boys, Year 8 Girls, Year 9 Boys, Year 9 Girls, Year 10 Boys, Senior Girls (Years 10, 11 & 12) and finally Senior Boys (Year 11 & 12).

The ACS would like to thanks Westbourne Grammar School for hosting another fantastic Cross Country Invitational event. Congratulations to all competitors who ran on the day, and we wish everyone a safe and happy summer holiday break.

ACS Public Speaking 2021

Continuing on from the success of last year’s event, the ACS Public Speaking Competition will once again run in an online format this coming Monday, 16 August from 5pm.

The competition will be hosted by the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV), who will help adjudicate the three sections of competition – Senior (Year 11 & 12), Intermediate (Year 9 & 10) and Junior (Year 7 & 8).

A perpetual trophy for first place in each section will be provided and an individual replica trophy for each section winner will also be provided. Medals will be given to the speakers who place second and third in each section. We wish all speakers the best of luck for Monday, and look forward to hearing the always compelling speeches that our ACS students produce.

We also send our best wishes to all members of the ACS community at this time, and look forward to resuming weekly and carnival sports when we are able to do so.

2021 ACS Athletics Championships Results

For the first time in two years, it was exciting to be back at Lakeside Stadium for the 2021 ACS Athletics Championships and what a wonderful day of track and field it was. The weather was perfect, the athletes primed and ready to go and Nora from Overnewton sang a beautiful rendition of the national anthem to start the day.

The competition was fierce and friendly as competitors drove each other to personal bests and new records for athletes from Loyola, Beaconhills and St Leonard’s.

The relays are an exciting part of the program and not for the faint hearted, as double points are available for the taking, the athletes did not disappoint the enthusiastic crowd. Nearly all schools won relays with the depth at Westbourne and St Leonard’s seeing them win five and four relays respectively.

Some of the highlights included; Year 12 Loyola Boys and St Leonard’s Girls winning the coveted 4 x 100m and open 4 x 400m double. Overnewton were impressive throughout the day with their sprinters, St Michael’s Year 11 Boys team held out St Leonard’s by one point to take the pennant and Beaconhills had some outstanding individual results as did Loyola.

In terms of the three major trophies, it was a tussle between reigning champions St Leonard’s and Westbourne. St Leonard’s held Westbourne out for top place by only 12 points for the Girls aggregate trophy with Westbourne taking out the Boys aggregate and Overall aggregate trophies. Congratulations to both team and to all schools on an outstanding athletics carnival.
