ACS Swimming Championships 2021 – Wrap Up & Results

It was wonderful to see our member school swimmers back in action at MSAC last night at our annual ACS Swimming Championships. The second year of a twilight event allowed for a spectacular Melbourne sunset back drop as we watched the schools compete in both individual and relay events across the evening.

We welcomed Laura G from St Leonard’s College, who gave our acknowledgement to Country, followed by Liliana M from Westbourne who sang the National Anthem, before we launched into our first events of the meet, the Open 200 Individual Medleys and 4 x50m Medley Relays.

There was plenty of support from the grandstands as we moved through individual Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke events, before our Butterfly events gave us the first ACS record of the night. Alex B from Loyola broke the ACS record in the Year 11 Boys 50m Butterfly, smashing the previous record which had been held for 13 years!

Our final events of the night were the 100m Individual Freestyle events and the 4 x 50m Freestyle relays before the swimmers gathered back to the grandstand to hear the final result. We congratulate St Leonard’s College for their seventh consecutive win at the ACS Swimming Championships, a wonderful effort by their entire squad and coaching staff. We also congratulate our swimmers of the meet – Charlise S from St Leonard’s, and Alex B and Rohan W from Loyola, all finishing the night with 100 points.

Full results can be found below. We look forward to seeing everyone back at MSAC in 2022.

New in 2021: Senior Sport

In 2021 ACS is introducing some changes to the senior sport program. We are opening up the fixtures to allow for more flexible arrangements. What this means is that we will build fixtures around students’ sport choices giving, more students their first sport choice as much as possible.

For example, we have been able to add two more girls volleyball, one girls tennis, three boys basketball and boys table tennis competitions based on the current demand for summer sport. In the upcoming winter season, we have added an extra girls netball, girls table tennis, boys volleyball and mixed badminton competitions. Our intention is to give as many students as possible the opportunity to represent their school.

We have received positive feedback so far and look forward to evaluating the changes as the seasons roll out. It is our commitment to continually evaluate our programs and modify them to serve the best interest of all students.

Welcome to ACS Sport 2021

On behalf of our member schools, we would like to wish everyone a very happy new year! We hope the start of Term has gone smoothly for all, and we look forward to seeing our students return to ACS sport in the coming weeks.

Round 1 of the Summer season kicks off with Year 7 & 8 sport next Tuesday 16th February, Seniors on Wednesday 17th and Year 9’s on Thursday 18th February.

Dates can be found in the calendar section of the website, and fixtures, results and ladders will be updated regularly.

ACS Cross Country Invitational Wrap Up

All involved in ACS were pleased to provide the opportunity for the ACS student community to come together and celebrate one more time in 2020. On what could only be described as a perfect day – beautiful, sunny and no wind – our five member schools came together at Westbourne Grammar School to partake in a Cross-Country Invitational.

The event began with our host school’s Welcome to Country, before our Year 7 Boys and then Year 7 Girls took off for the first races of the day. With each wave of runners – including several Year 12’s who had returned to compete for their school one last time – we saw plenty of endurance, determination and above all, unwavering school spirit and comradery.

Cross country is an event that allows our athletes to shine year after year and this year we celebrate the outstanding achievements of Caden Murray from Loyola College. In Year 7 Caden finished in 5th place but that wasn’t good enough for him so for the following year he trained hard, really hard, and won setting a new course record in 2016 for Year 8 and also won the following year with another course record when in Year 9. He won every year from Year 8 to this year when in Year 12, a magnificent achievement. We congratulate Caden on his wonderful accomplishment showing us that hard work really does pay off.

Thank Westbourne Grammar School for hosting this wonderful event. We congratulate all competitors who ran on the day, and we look forward to coming together again in 2021.

ACS Update 20 July 2020

We're all in this together

The image above from our 2020 ACS Swimming Carnival shows this group of boys displaying mateship and celebrating the many years of fierce and friendly competition together and how much they were looking forward to next year’s event. In this spirit of camaraderie, we look forward to a resumption of ACS sport as soon as it is safe to do so.

For now, the return to ACS sport in Term 3 has been postponed until further announcements from the Victorian State Government, where we will continue to follow the advice from the Victorian Education Department in planning a resumption of sports events. We understand the importance of sport to our students and will consider an opportunity to resume a modified program once it is safe to do so.

Our ACS Chess and ACS Public Speaking events will be held online in August and we are thrilled to make these events possible.

ACS Public Speaking online Monday 17 August 2020

ACS Chess online Friday 21 August 2020

We wish all members of the ACS community well and look forward to when we can safely resume participation in our sporting activities together.
