2026 ACS Swimming Carnival Recap and Results

Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre | Monday 30 March

The 2026 ACS Swimming Championships, held on Monday 30 March at MSAC, delivered one of the most memorable carnivals in recent years, combining ideal conditions, outstanding organisation, and an exceptional standard of racing across all eight ACS member schools.

Following last year’s dramatic 20-point result that saw Westbourne Grammar edge past St Leonard’s for the first time in a decade, anticipation was high heading into this year’s event. The 2026 Championships not only lived up to expectations, but raised the bar again, with close finishes, exceptional depth, and remarkable performances across every age group.

From the opening relays to the final freestyle events, the atmosphere throughout the venue was electric. A huge contribution to the day’s energy came from Matt Luczek (Loyola College), whose outstanding work as announcer helped lift the excitement and enjoyment of the championships. Behind the scenes, Matt Healy, Jack Robinson, Deb, Anthony, Julian, Alois and the Westbourne marshalling team, alongside school team marshals, officials and swim coaches, ensured the event ran with efficiency and professionalism throughout.

Westbourne Claims Overall Honours

At the conclusion of a fiercely contested day, Westbourne Grammar School claimed both the Overall Aggregate Cup and the Aggregate Boys Cup, continuing their strong recent form in the pool.

St Leonard’s College secured the Aggregate Girls Cup, underlining their continued excellence and depth across the female events.

The overall standings again highlighted the fierce rivalry between the leading schools, with St Michael’s Grammar and Overnewton applying strong pressure throughout the meet, while swimmers from Loyola, Bacchus Marsh Grammar, St Aloysius and Aitken all produced standout performances and valuable points contributions.

The individual leaderboards reflected the extraordinary talent on display, with Sophia (Westbourne) and Owen (Westbourne) both finishing on a perfect 100 individual points to top the girls’ and boys’ rankings respectively to win the Athlete’s of the Meet.

12 Records Broken in a Championship to Remember

One of the defining features of the 2026 Championships was the extraordinary speed in the pool, with 12 ACS records broken across individual and relay events.

The new ACS championship record holders are:

  • Eve (Overnewton, Year 11) – 50m Breaststroke (34.88)
  • Luna (St Leonard’s, Year 7) – 50m Freestyle (29.19)
  • Luna (St Leonard’s, Year 7) – 50m Butterfly (31.12)
  • Aiden (St Leonard’s, Year 9) – 50m Backstroke (30.01)
  • St Leonard’s College Year 8 Boys Medley Relay – Miles, Henry, Tristan, Ethan (2:11.63)
  • St Leonard’s College Year 8 Boys Freestyle Relay – Tristan, Henry, Tasman, Ethan (1:56.92)
  • St Leonard’s College Year 12 Boys Freestyle Relay – Benjamin, Jack, Harry, Max (1:44.98)
  • Andrew (St Michael’s, Year 8) – 50m Breaststroke (34.39)
  • Andrew (St Michael’s, Year 8) – 50m Butterfly (29.13)
  • Ethan (Westbourne, Year 7) – 50m Breaststroke (34.18)
  • Owen (Westbourne, Year 12) – 50m Freestyle (24.57)
  • Owen (Westbourne, Year 12) – 50m Butterfly (25.39)

A special highlight came in the Boys 14 Years 50m Breaststroke, where both Andrew (St Michael’s) and Henry (St Leonard’s) went under the previous championship record, producing one of the races of the day and perfectly capturing the standard of competition across the meet.

Inclusion and Participation Continue to Grow

Another major positive from the day was the successful inclusion of two multiclass events, providing more students with the opportunity to compete at one of Victoria’s premier swimming venues.

ACS remains committed to continuing this growth in multiclass participation, ensuring all students can experience the excitement, challenge and achievement of championship-level school sport.

Participation growth remains a major focus across ACS sport, with continued emphasis on supporting schools to maintain strong involvement- particularly encouraging girls to remain engaged in sport through their mid-teen years.

A Championship Built on Community

Beyond the medals, cups and records, the 2026 ACS Swimming Championships was a celebration of community, teamwork and school pride.

The professionalism of officials, the support of coaches, the commitment of school staff, and the enthusiasm of student-athletes combined to create an outstanding championship experience.

With thrilling races, record-breaking swims and incredible school spirit, the 2026 event has set a brilliant benchmark for the years ahead.
