2015 ACS Girl’s Football
This year’s ACS Girl’s Football Tournament was full of excitement on many levels. We were thrilled to have Daisy Pearce join us to talk to the players before the games commenced. Daisy is an All Australian and was the number 1 draft pick in the inaugural AFL Women’s match between the Melbourne Demons and Western Bulldogs, a five time premiership player and captain of the Darebin Falcons. Daisy talked to the girls about her incredible experiences and achievements and the wonderful friendships and opportunities her sport has given her. Daisy also talked about the Fair Go Sports Schools Project and how important it is to ensure a safe and inclusive environment is provided for all students especially through sport. Thank you to Overnewton for arranging for Daisy to come and speak to the teams.
We had three time premiers Thomas Carr looking to go four in row and Loyola as four time premiers (2008-2011) hoping to add another premiership. Former Loyola player Ms Rebecca Privitelli, now Loyola Coach and Darebin Falcons player alongside Daisy Pearce was quietly confident her team would do well. Thomas Carr’s long time Coach, Miss White was also confident her team were ready to defend their title. However, there was strong competition ahead as for the first time all ACS schools entered a team.
Held at Westbourne Grammar School’s ovals the six teams were separated into two pools where the winners of each pool played off for the Premiership and the second placed teams played in the consolation final. After many terrific matches where we saw great skills, solid tackling, excellent structures it was Loyola and Thomas Carr as winners of Pool A and B with Westbourne and St Michael’s as runners up in each pool achieving great results particularly as they haven’t played in this competition for some time.
In the hotly contested finals we saw Thomas Carr play solid football to take out the match and their fourth straight premiership against a spirited Loyola team. In the consolation final St Michael’s were outstanding in defeating a much improved and determined Westbourne team. Congratulation to all teams on a fantastic day of football and especially to Thomas Carr who now go on to represent ACS in the AFL Victoria Herald Sun Shield Senior Girls Competition.
Thank you to Westbourne and Mr Healy for hosting the event and ensuring we had everything needed to run a successful event.
