2017 ACS Swimming Championships

What a superb day of swimming at MSAC. There was a threat of a storm coming but the only storm brewing was the one St Leonard’s was swimming up in the pool, winning five of the medley relays to get a jump start on Westbourne and St Michael’s after the first 14 events.
However, the competition was fierce all day long and all teams were represented on the winners podium. The Loyola and Overnewton teams were pushing hard to improve on previous years results and were able to achieve that by taking fourth and fifth positions respectively. Beaconhills had several outstanding results and were always in the mix. Thomas Carr also had some outstanding results and worked hard all day in the pool; the commitment of their swimmers throughout the meet could not be faulted.
After event 99 prior to the 100m events and freestyle relays; it was still open to the top three teams with only 31 points separating St Leonard’s and Westbourne with St Michael’s 83 points behind. Westbourne closed the gap by winning three of the six 100m freestyle events but St Leonard’s won the first three freestyle relays to consolidate their lead, eventually winning seven of the 12 relays and an unbeatable lead. At the end of the relays St Leonard’s had amassed enough points to win the three major trophies for Overall Aggregate, Girls and Boys Aggregate trophies. Westbourne finished second in the Overall Aggregate and Girls Aggregate and were pipped by St Michael’s by two points for second place in the Boys Aggregate trophy. In the overall category it was Loyola fourth, Overnewton fifth, Beaconhills sixth and Thomas Carr in seventh place.
In a further show of the excellent swimmers on display, 15 new records were set by Westbourne (9), St Leonard’s (5) and Beaconhills (1). Westbourne took out the Female and Male swimmers of the Meet Awards.
